Lerdo Pre-Trial Jail Role

The Kern County Sheriff's Office Pre-Trial Facility page identifies Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility as the largest jail building in the county detention system. It sits in the Industrial Farm Road detention corridor north of Bakersfield and is operated by the Kern County Sheriff's Office Detentions Bureau. KCSO describes the building as housing male and female incarcerated people, higher security levels, county inmates, and some state or federal contract inmates. That mix makes the facility different from a small city lockup: it is a full county jail housing site, not just a temporary holding room.

The practical question for most families is whether the public roster lists the person under Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility or another KCSO location. The same county booking can move through a receiving point, a medical or classification review, and then a housing unit. KCSO roster profiles include a jail field, and that field is the best public clue for where visits and facility calls should start. A person with new charges may appear at Lerdo Justice first, then later appear at Lerdo Pre-Trial after classification.

Kern County research gives two supported capacity figures for Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility. The public KCSO facility page states a maximum capacity of 1,232. A 2025 staffing-plan source found through KCSO states a BSCC rated capacity of 1,344 and an average daily population of 1,060, with seven pods and six housing units per pod. Those numbers should not be blended into one figure because they come from different source contexts. The safest reading is that the public page gives a facility maximum, while the staffing-plan figure gives a BSCC rated capacity and a staffing-period ADP.

Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility should be kept separate from the wider Kern County inmate population count. KCSO's Detentions Bureau page gives about 1,700 average daily inmates across the bureau, and the public roster showed 1,665 visible records on May 31, 2026. Those are system-wide figures. They do not mean every person is at Pre-Trial, and they do not include sentenced CDCR prisoners or ICE detainees housed in separate state and federal systems.

KCSO warns that due to system updates and partner-agency changes, the roster may not be the most current source for court case results.

2. Review the public rows and use date of birth to avoid mixing up people with similar names.
3. Open the profile and check the Jail field for Lerdo Pre-Trial Facility or another KCSO location.
4. Use the profile's bail, hearing, booking, and charge fields as jail data, then confirm court case data through the Kern Superior Court portal when needed.

Lerdo Pre-Trial Visiting

Pre-Trial visiting uses last-name days and scheduled appointments. KCSO states that Pre-Trial visits may be one 60-minute visit or two 30-minute visits per week. The facility limit is two adults, or one adult and three children, or two adults and two children, with no more than four visitors because of space. Visitors need valid photo ID, and captured KCSO rules say expired IDs and IDs with holes are not accepted. Children require adult supervision and proof of guardianship when facility rules call for it.

Public video and remote visits are monitored and recorded, and KCSO may cancel or restrict visits. Dress rules bar tank tops, see-through clothing, visible undergarments, bathing suits, gang references, and clothing that exposes midriff, buttocks, breasts, or genitalia. Visitors with fever or respiratory illness are told to postpone visits until recovered.

Lerdo Pre-Trial Mail Money

Personal mail for Kern County Sheriff's Office detention facilities moved to the Securus Digital Mail Center effective June 1, 2025. Normal personal letters are scanned and delivered digitally on kiosks or tablets; private or privileged legal mail is not affected. Books and periodicals for Pre-Trial are allowed only when sent directly from the publisher, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon, with a two soft-bound book limit per shipment.

Do not mail cash, money orders, checks, stamps, blank envelopes, stickers, tape, perfume, hair, lipstick, or similar contraband. KCSO identifies indigent supplies for people with less than $3.00 in the inmate trust account, including basic hygiene and writing items once a week.

Lerdo Pre-Trial Booking Flow

Kern County booking can begin with KCSO, a city police department, CHP, or another agency. The Justice Facility is described as the primary receiving facility, but the Pre-Trial Facility has the medical and higher-security housing resources that make it a major destination after intake and classification. KCSO roster profiles can show arrest date and time, booking date and time, booking type, total bail, charge details, and hearing details. They can also show multiple booking blocks for one person, so one profile may reflect more than one event or case path.

Classification is the jail process that assigns security level and housing. KCSO Population Management includes Classification, AES, and ISAT. AES treats some defendants found incompetent to stand trial locally where possible, and ISAT supports inmates with serious mental, behavioral, and intellectual disabilities. Pre-Trial's 24-hour medical staff and daily psychiatric staffing are relevant when a person has medical or mental-health needs that affect jail placement.
