KCSO lists many banned mail items, including sexually explicit material, stickers, tape, blank paper, blank cards, stamps, cash, checks, perfume, lipstick, hair, and other contraband. If a person has less than $3.00 in the inmate trust account, KCSO's commissary notes identify weekly indigent basics such as hygiene and writing supplies.

Lerdo Justice Intake

Justice is central to Kern County booking because KCSO identifies it as the primary facility for receiving arrested persons. Booking may start after arrest by KCSO, city police, CHP, or another agency. Staff complete identity processing, medical screening, mental-health screening, and booking entries. After classification, the person may remain at Justice or move to another KCSO facility based on security, gender, medical or behavioral-health needs, court status, and available beds.
