Lerdo Minimum Status

The KCSO Minimum Facility page identifies Lerdo Minimum Facility at the Industrial Farm Road detention complex. The key status point is that KCSO currently says the facility is not housing incarcerated persons and is under construction. That status changes the way the page should be read. It is a county detention facility page, but not a page for an active housing unit where families should schedule visits without first checking the roster.

Historically and by design, the facility is tied to minimum-security dormitory or barracks-style housing. Research notes a staffing-plan source indicating male and female capacity divisions, with most capacity assigned to male housing and a smaller female capacity. Those figures describe the facility's design and staffing-plan context. They do not mean a current inmate is housed there while KCSO states that the building is under construction and not housing incarcerated persons.

Lerdo Minimum Capacity

A 2025 staffing-plan source gives Lerdo Minimum Facility a BSCC rated capacity of 792, with 696 male and 96 female capacity in barracks or dormitory-style housing. These are supported capacity figures, but they must be paired with the construction note. Since KCSO says the facility is not housing incarcerated persons, the page should not list a current housed population or imply that the Kern County inmate population is living in this facility now.

For active Kern County custody, the broader Detentions Bureau reports about 1,700 average daily inmates, and the public roster snapshot showed 1,665 visible records on May 31, 2026. Those figures can help explain scale, but they are not Minimum Facility counts. A person who once might have fit minimum-security housing may now be assigned to another KCSO location or an alternative custody program.

Search Minimum Facility Custody

Use the KCSO Inmate Information roster to confirm current county jail housing. The roster has a single search input and public columns for booking number, first name, middle name, last name, and date of birth. After opening a profile, read the Jail field rather than assuming a facility based on arrest location, sentence level, or the name of the page. If KCSO has not reopened Minimum for housing, the active jail field should point elsewhere.

1. Search the KCSO roster by name or booking number.
2. Open the profile and read the Jail field, release status, booking type, bail fields, and hearing details.
3. If the profile lists Pre-Trial or Justice, use that facility's visiting and contact rules instead of Minimum rules.
4. If no county record appears, check whether the person moved to CDCR, BOP, ICE, or was released.

Minimum Facility is a county jail building, so CDCR CIRIS is not the first lookup for a current Kern County jail booking. CDCR becomes relevant after a state prison sentence and transfer. BOP applies to federal sentenced prisoners. ICE ODLS applies to immigration detainees. Kern County's roster is still the correct starting point for local jail custody.

Lerdo Minimum Contact

The Minimum Facility contact numbers should be used for facility-status questions, official instructions, or KCSO rule confirmation. They should not replace the roster when the question is where a person is housed today. The Lerdo complex has several buildings with nearby addresses, and a wrong facility choice can waste a long trip from Bakersfield or eastern Kern.

Lerdo Minimum Visiting Rules

Current visiting should be based on the active roster facility because KCSO says Minimum is not housing people. The Minimum Facility source still preserves rule details that matter if the building reopens or if KCSO uses the rules as a reference. Captured visitor items include identification, one vehicle key or remote, one infant diaper and wipe in a clear bag, one clear infant bottle, and one infant blanket.

For a person who is actually housed at Pre-Trial or Justice, use that facility's schedule. Pre-Trial uses last-name visiting days and a phone appointment line. Justice uses Securus video visitation. KCSO can cancel or restrict any visit for security, behavior, health, or rule violations.

Lerdo Minimum Mail Money

Minimum Facility's captured rules include phone, property, money, and mail information, but sending funds or mail still requires a live inmate record. KCSO personal mail for detention facilities moved to the Securus Digital Mail Center effective June 1, 2025. Use the incarcerated person's full name and seven-digit booking number, then the Securus Digital Mail Center address. Normal personal mail is no longer accepted at sheriff detention facilities, while legal mail is treated separately.

Do not mail cash, checks, stamps, blank envelopes, stickers, tape, perfume, hair, lipstick, or other banned items. Books and package rules can change by facility and status, so the roster location and KCSO's current facility page should be checked before anything is ordered.

Minimum Security Context

Minimum-security housing is different from the Justice Facility receiving role and the Pre-Trial higher-security role. In jail terms, classification is the process that assigns a person to a housing level based on security, medical or mental-health needs, charge status, gender, bed space, and court orders. Minimum-style housing is usually a lower-security assignment, but KCSO's current construction status means that eligible people may be housed elsewhere or handled through alternative custody when approved.

KCSO also documents alternative custody through Virtual Jail, Work Release, Sheriff's Parole, and Electronic Monitoring. Those programs are separate from simply being housed at Minimum Facility.
